Sabah state assembly to be dissolved…

The Sabah state assembly is expected to be dissolved on Monday, reported The Star in an exclusive report.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will announce the dissolution of the assembly on Monday, a senior political source told.

In addition to that, state ministers have already bid farewell to each other and taken photographs post Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, it is learnt.

It is also learnt that Hajiji has sought the consent of the Yang DiPertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman to dissolve the assembly.

One reason for this move is Hajiji wants to avoid a gray legal issue.

The swearing in ceremony on Oct 9 2020 which is a special session following the Sept 26, 2020 snap election was not considered the first day of the sitting, said Sabah Speaker Datuk Kadzim Yahya.

The state Constitution is murky on the definition of the first sitting as it only states that “the Legislative Assembly shall, unless sooner dissolved, continue for five years from the date of its first sitting and shall then stand dissolved”.

The constitution also says “the first sitting of the House in each session shall be held in such place on such day and at such hour as the Tuan Yang Terutama Yang DiPertua Negeri may by proclamation appoint”.
