Exams during Deepavali: Reschedule it, Education, Higher Education Ministries need to look into it, says Klang MP

Klang MP V Ganabatirau has written letters to both the Education and Higher Education ministries to ensure no education institutions conduct examination during the Deepavali week.

“I have been writing letters annually repeatedly regarding examination and academic assessments that are scheduled close to the Deepavali celebrations.

“We have been receiving numerous complaints from parents and students who are having examinations as early as the first week of October and continues to the Deepavali week.

“There are universities conducting online assessments on Deepavali eve or a day after, which clearly disrupts the celebrations.

“That is why I requested both the ministries to manage their 2026 schedule so that no examinations, continuous assessments, online quizs, assignment or any form of academic assessment are conducted one week before to one week after Deepavali.

There should be at least one week school holiday that coincides with Deepavali as it allows students and teaches to celebrate,” added the DAP lawmaker.

“The ministries must ensure that all state education departments, public and private education institutions take this into account when they make their schedule.”

The issue also have been raised by the public via social media, especially on Threads and X.

This year Deepavali falls on Oct 20.
