Tuaran UPKO proposes candidates for Tamparuli, Kiulu

Tuaran UPKO has passed a resolution in calling for its honorary president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau to be fielded in Tamparuli and Tuaran deputy chief Joisin Romut to be fielded in Kiulu.

Joisin is also UPKO supreme council member.

The resolution passed during the Tuaran UPKO convention 2025 yesterday, was based on the division’s assessment of more than 7,000 active members, findings from attitude studies, grassroots feedback and the positive acceptance of both candidates among local communities.

UPKO information chief Dr Peter Jr Naintain said the resolution is a reflection of the grassroots’ confidence towards both leaders who have been actively serving the local communities.

“The members expressed strong support for Datuk Seri Madius and Joisin, believing they are capable of continuing Upko’s struggle and strengthening the party’s presence in Tuaran,” he said.

Both the seats are traditional stronghold seats of Parti Bersatu Sabah.

Tamparuli is held by PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim and Kiulu, PBS information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

Last week UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick announced that his party is prepared to contest in Melalap state seat.

UPKO is a component of Pakatan Harapan (PH) whereas PBS is a component of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Both PH and GRS are contesting the 17th Sabah state election as a coalition.
