Hamzah coy on taking PM post
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was coy when he was asked whether he would accept if he was given a chance to be the prime minister of Malaysia.
“I am a reluctant politician but if you give me a task, I would do it,” said Hamzah on The Breakfast Grille on BFM89.9.
Bersatu had nominated its president Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin as the prime minister candidate for Perikatan Nasional (PN). This was done without consulting other PN component parties.
The ongoing crisis within Bersatu had seen a number of leaders within the party calling for a prime minister candidate as they felt that Mahiaddin was not upto the mark for a second term.
Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah who is also Indera Mahkota MP are among those who called against Mahiaddin’s nomination.
The suspended Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan who was sacked from Bersatu have declared their support for Hamzah to be the prime minister candidate for PN.
Earlier on Hamzah declared his support for Mahiaddin as Bersatu president. He was also confident that Mahiaddin would allow him to take over the party leadership when the time comes.
“I am the number one supporter of my president. Don’t question my loyalty.
“It is known that the president will pass the baton when he is ready. It is like a relay race.
“The transition will happen when the president wants it to happen. I am waiting.”
