Sabah, Sarawak may have its Trans Borneo Railway soon

The Transport Ministry is currently conducting Trans Borneo Railway Feasibility Study to look into the potentials of developing a railway network in Sabah and Sarawak, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The study that began in June 2025 is expected to be completed mid next year.

“Consultants are conducting engagement sessions with ministries, state governments, relevant agencies and industry players to obtain their views and evaluate domestic market capability.

“An engagement session with the governments of Brunei and Indonesia also would be conducted to keep in line with the cross boundary development agenda.

“The government will study the project proposal based on the outcome of the feasibility study that covers various aspects including technical, socio-economic benefits, costs and our long term financial capability,” said Loke.

He said this in his written reply to Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) who asked for the latest update on the feasibility study for railway transportation in Sabah and Sarawak.
