State rep claims RM10 million in aggravated damages, ex-parte injunction from Joseph Prakash, wife

Kota Kemuning state assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan is claiming RM10 million in aggravated damages from Joseph Prakash Sukumaran, Sumathi Tamilvanan and an NGO Pertubuhan Kebajikan Integriti Persahabatan Nasional.

The RM10 million aggravated damages and statement of claim was filed by lawyers from Rishi & Partners.

Despite having no role in a carnival, the defendants had implicated and defamed Preakas as the one responsible for a Deepavali carnival sale which was organised by Shah Alam City Council via TikTok.

Both the defendants also harassed Preakas over the matter on 4 Nov.

Aside from a defamation suit, Preakas is also seeking a mandatory injunction, a perpetual prohibitory injunction to restraint the defendants and their representatives.

Preakas is also seeking permanent restraining order against them from being within a 200 metre radius from his office, premises, service centre, residence programme sites or any public engagement locations and from threatening his staff, council members anyone connected to his office.

The statement of claim was filed on Nov 14.

Preakas also have obtained an ex-parte injunction against the defendants on 19 Nov from producing any defamatory statements against him.
