After MIC, MCA has declared that it is prepared to quit Barisan Nasional and the reason, according to party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, is because the coalition keeps backing polircies and political arrangements that burden the people and weaken it.
Wee claimed BN which is made up of Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS risk getting dragged down by unpopular federal government policies.
“MCA is prepared to go its own way if BN continues to support policies and political arrangements that hurt the people and weaken the coalition,” he said during the party’s annual general meeting.
He added that confidence in political parties was fragile, and BN’s relevance would depend on its ability to demonstrate independence, accountability, and a willingness to speak up on issues.
“If the unity government continues with policies that burden the rakyat, and BN continues to support them without question, then MCA must be prepared to act in the best interests of the people,” he said.
On that note he has brushed off the notion of MCA joining federal opposition bloc on the basis that Pas is not being a moderate party.
In addition to that, the Chinese community have kept away from Pas.
A coalition needs to be made up of a minimum of three parties.
