Durian Tunggal police shootout: Irrelevant character assassination, lawyer lambast Melaka police chief

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar’s claim that a 31-year-old woman is not the wife of the Durian Tunggal police shooting victim is nothing but character assassination, said a lawyer.

“That is character assassination and totally irrelevant,” said Rajesh Nagarajan to Harapan Daily.

Sinar Harian reported Dzulkhairi as saying the woman is a lover of the victim for the past three years living in Durian Tunggal. He added that she also has 10 criminal records. He added that the deceased has an estranged wife who lived in Johor.

The 10 include vehicle theft, robbery and attempted murder.

Dzulkhairi also said that the lady’s 55 year old father had 24 criminal records.

He also confirmed that the case is being probed by Bukit Aman’s special task force (STF).

Rajesh meanwhile questioned whether the STF had recorded the statements of the policemen who killed the three men.

The three victims – Puspanathan Murulitharan, 21; Poonesvaran Tiagarajan, 24; and Logeswaran Georgie, 29 – were killed on November 24.

A recorded phone conversation and Melaka Hospital pathology department revealed that the three were in police custody before they were shot.
