Hannah Yeoh’s four main priorities as Federal Territories Minister

Newly minted Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh said that she would focus on four main priorities in her new portfolio.

“In carrying out this mandate, I am committed to leading the Federal Territories with transparency, responsibility and a clear understanding of the realities faced by our communities. My focus will be on strengthening the quality and reliability of public services, promoting sustainable development, safeguarding green and recreational spaces and enhancing flood mitigation efforts.

“This is a heavy responsibility, and I will uphold it with integrity, discipline and resolve, in line with the MADANI Government’s aspirations and the people’s expectations for a public service that is efficient, inclusive and effective,” she said in a Facebook post after clocking in today.

“Drawing from these experiences, my administration will prioritise close collaboration with all elected Members of Parliament within the Federal Territories. As the people’s representatives, they understand the heartbeat of their constituencies.

“There is no greater democratic voice to listen to. The voice of the people is sacred,” she said in reference to her past experience as a state assemblyman, Selangor speaker and several federal ministry positions.

“My vision for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur the nation’s capital and largest city, Putrajaya the administrative centre and Labuan the offshore financial centre is clear – to maximise their potential and inspire other cities across the nation to be clean both in substance and form and to be a safe dwelling place where the people can live, work and enjoy life to its fullest.

She viewed the appointment of Datuk Loh Su Fui as a strategic move since the federal government also wants Labuan to get its due attention.

“Both the Deputy Minister, Datuk Lo Su Fui, and I are legally trained — a strength for good governance and sound decision-making. The strategic appointment of a Deputy Minister from Sabah also reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that Labuan receives greater attention and support.

“As with all matters concerning the Federal Territories, major policy decisions will be made collectively by the Cabinet under the leadership of the Prime Minister.”

The Federal Territories is made up of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
