Support Bangladeshi minorities like we support Palestinian cause, senator tells government
Senator Dr A Lingeshwaran has called upon Putrajaya to support the Bangladedshi minorities in a similar manner the government supports the Palestinian cause.
This is in the wake of a case where a Bangladeshi Hindu was lynched and burnt alive.
“The Malaysian Government should take a similar stand and decisive steps as it has taken in support of the Palestinian people, in responding to the horrific incident in which a Bangladeshi Hindu was burnt alive in Bangladesh.
“No individual should ever be targeted or harmed because of their religious identity. The safety and rights of minority communities must be protected at all times.
“The Government of Bangladesh must ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and take concrete steps to prevent further violence against minorities.
“Malaysia must take a clear, consistent, and principled stand against all forms of religious persecution, wherever they occur.”
He also supported the call by Jelutong MP RSN Rayer to register the strongest possible protest with the Bangladeshi Embassy.
Yesterday Rayer who is also Penang Hindu Endowment Board chairman condemned the horrific incident.
“No individual should ever be subjected to violence because of their religious identity. The rights and safety of minorities must be protected at all times, and such acts of hatred and intolerance have no place in any society.
“Violence against minorities undermines social harmony and threatens the values of justice and equality,” he said in a statement.
“I urge the Malaysian government to register the strongest possible protest with the Bangladeshi Embassy and to seek clear assurances that those responsible will be brought to justice.
“It is imperative that the Government of Bangladesh takes concrete steps to ensure the protection of all minority communities and prevent the recurrence of such atrocities,” said the DAP lawmaker.
