Guarantee safety, dignity and rights of Bangladeshi Hindus, PHEB demands

The Penang Hindu Endowments Board led a group of 30 people from the state chapters of Hindu organisations such as Hindu Sangam and Malaysia Hindudharma Mamandram in demanding Dhaka to guarantee the safety, dignity and rights of Bangladeshi Hindus and other religious minorities.

“We are deeply alarmed by continued reports of violence, intimidation and persecution faced by the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The burning alive of Hindus represents not only a crime against individuals but also an assault on humanity and civilised values.”

PHEB chairman RSN Rayer stated in the protest memorandum that was handed over to Bangladesh consulate in Penang.

The memorandum was received by Bangladesh’s honorary consul, Datuk Shaik Ismail Allaudin

“In this regard, we firmly call upon the government of Bangladesh to conduct an immediate, transparent and impartial investigation into all incidents involving the burning alive of Hindus. Ensure that all perpetrators are identified and brought to justice without delay.

“Take concrete and effective measures to guarantee the safety, dignity and constitutional rights of Hindus and religious minorities.

Since Dec 1 til 25th, a total of 12 Bangladeshi Hindus have been killed. Of the 12, the one who was burned alive have been identified as Dipu Chandra Das.

Das was lynched by the mob, hung on a tree and burned alive.
