Durian Tunggal police shootout: Involved cops no longer on active duty
Policemen involved in the Durian Tunggal shootout have been removed from active duty confirmed Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Commissioner Datuk M Kumar.
“Investigations are ongoing and those being probed are not on active duty,” Kumar said at a press conference.
“We have recorded a total of 45 statements. We have also sent the audio recording to Cybersecurity Malaysia for analysis and are still waiting for their report.
“The investigation paper will be sent to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action while we await the full report.”
In the Nov 24 incident, three men were shot dead – Puspanathan Murulitharan, 21; Poonesvaran Tiagarajan, 24; and Logeswaran Georgie, 29.
The case initially classified as attempted was reclassified by the Attorney General’s Chambers as murder on Dec 16.
The police claimed that the trio are wanted gangsters who were shot dead at 4.30 am. Lawyers representing the families of the deceased however put forth evidence to debunk the claim.
A phone call recording indicated that the time was around 1 a.m.
