Please don’t step down, Akmal, an academic makes a plea
An academic, Professor James Chin, sarcastically made a plea to Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh against quitting his position in the party.
“Please do not step down. The Malay nationalists want you to stay and take over UMNO and bring UMNO into MN,” he said on Facebook.
“Then you will implement your vision of “one race one religion” country.”
MN refers to Muafakat Nasional, a loose coalition, previously made up of Pas and Umno.
Chin also took a leaf from US President Donald Trump to give Akmal a tagline.
“Make Malaysia Malay again.”
Earlier today Akmal announced that he is considering the option to call it quits as Umno Youth chief.
Akmal is Merlimau state representative in Melaka and sits in the state exco as well.
Days earlier, Akmal organised a convention in which he urged Umno to quit the unity government and form MN with Pas all over again.
In response to Chin’s call, media and communications specialist Datuk Edward Jules Savarimuthu suggested Umno appoint Nazifuddin Najib to take over from Akmal.
The son of former prime minister Najib Razak, Nazifuddin is Umno Youth exco member as well as Langkawi Umno division chief.
