PHEB, Hindu NGOs lodge police report against rally, coordinator
Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) deputy chairman Senator Dr A Lingeshwaran along with four Hindu NGOs have lodged a police report against the coordinator of Anti Illegal Places of Worship Movement coordinator Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu.
The four NGOs are Malaysia Hindu Sangam Penang, Malaysia Hindu Mamandram Penang, Penang Hindu Sangam Malaysia and the Penang Hindu Association.
“This planned gathering clearly has the potential to stir religious controversy, foster hostility between communities, and undermine the spirit of tolerance that is the foundation of Malaysia’s multicultural society,” said Lingeshwaran in a statement after lodging the report.
“Such actions are irresponsible and contrary to the principles of mutual respect.
“We jointly condemn the idea of this gathering and urge the authorities to take action to prevent the gathering from taking place, in the interest of public safety, order, and the prosperity of the nation.
The police report was lodged yesterday evening at the Jalan Patani district police headquarters in Penang.
Zamri Vinoth is a controversial Indian Muslim convert preacher. The gathering that he is organising is scheduled to be held on Feb 7 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, near SOGO shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur.
This is not the first police report lodged against Zamri Vinoth regarding the rally.
Jelutong MP RSN Rayer too had lodged a police on Feb 4. Yesterday he questioned why the Home Ministry had not taken action against the controversial figure despite over 890 police reports lodged previously.
