Engagement session with Indian MPs, state assemblymen over Hindu temples in the works
Deputy Law and Institutional Reform Minister M Kula Segaran confirmed that he would be convening an engagement session with Indian MPs and state lawmakers on issues regarding the Hindu community, including issues concerning Hindu temples, housing and accommodation for estate workers.
“Later this week, I will be convening an engagement session in Parliament with Indian Members of Parliament and State Assemblymen to hear their perspectives on the broader issues affecting the Hindu community, including matters concerning temples as well as housing and accommodation for estate workers.
“All views gathered from these discussions, together with proposed action plans, will be conveyed to the government for further consideration and decision.”
He said this via his Facebook page after meeting with the National Hindu Temples Steering Committee in parliament yesterday.
“The NHTSC brings together various Hindu non-governmental organisations and civil society groups in a collaborative effort to address these matters.”
“In recent months, there have been several sensitive issues relating to land matters involving Hindu temples. I listened carefully to the NHTSC’s views, particularly the concerns raised from the grassroots.
“They also shared their proposed way forward, including pathways towards regularisation under the four colour framework and a proposed moratorium on enforcement action by local councils while these matters are being properly reviewed and resolved.”
The issue of unregistered Hindu temples and ones that have been constructed on land belonging to government and private land owners have been hogging the headlines of late.
