Person who lodged report had grudges due to past failed deals, allegations are preposterous, claims wife of former minister

Toh Puan Na’imah Khalid, the wife of former minister Tun Daim Zainudin who is being investigated for attempting to topple the current government claimed that the person who lodged a report against her at the Brickfields police station yesterday had grudges against her as he had failed to be part of her communications team.

She however did not name the person outright.

“The individual who lodged the report approached me and offered his services in July 2025 as part of a proposed communications team. Due to his poor performance of the job, he was terminated. After his termination he had attempted to make further monetary demands,” she said in a statement released by her lawyer.

“Clearly this is the conduct of a disgruntled man.”

Na’imah dismissed the allegations that she was attempting to topple the government as false and preposterous but well timed.

“Not only are the contents of the police report false and preposterous, but its timing- coming seven months after the alleged meeting and on the heels of the biggest scandals facing the government points to a desperate attempt to distract from growing calls to remove the person he entrusted, not once, not twice but three times to lead the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission,” she said in reference to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

In reference to the Bloomberg article that alleged MACC was in cahoots with a corporate mafia, Na’imah pointed out that the first article was published in Sept 2024 which was 10 months before the individual who lodged a report met her.

She also questioned how can one topple a government with the help of international media.

“How does one topple a government with the help of international or for that matter, a public relations firm? If that were the case, countless Malaysian governments in the past would have been replaced in time.”

“Since when has seeking professional public relations advice been a crime, especially when faced with the unbridled powers of an agency led by a scandal-tainted individual who has the continued full backing of the prime minister?

Na’imah also clarified that the full credit for the investigative report by Bloomberg goes to the journalists, not her.

“While I am flattered by the claim that I was behind the investigative report by Bloomberg, I do not wish to take credit away from those who truly put their journalistic skills and talents to work to uncover the shocking allegations surrounding the MACC chief.

“Therefore any attempt to suggest that I am behind the reporting is not only irresponsible but also an insult to the journalists concerned.

She claimed that the government actions only proves that the institutional powers are being weaponised.

Earlier today Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the case was being investigated under Section 124B for carrying out activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

If convicted, one faces a 20-year jail term.
