Man who beat wife into miscarriage now faces charges for burying foetus

A man who was arrested last week on suspicion of brutally beating his wife until she suffered a miscarriage in Sungai Petani, Kedah, is now also being investigated for allegedly burying a foetus at a Muslim cemetery on April 2.

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the 43-year-old suspect had confessed and pointed out where he buried the foetus on Thursday.

He said the foetus belonged to his 39-year-old wife, who had miscarried after he assaulted her at Ambangan Heights, Sungai Petani, on April 2.

“Last Thursday, police took the suspect and his wife to the location where the foetus was buried.

“We also brought a forensics team from the Kedah Police contingent headquarters to excavate the site, and they found an incomplete foetus in dry tissue,” he said at a press conference today.

Adzli said if proven to be a human foetus, the police will open an investigation paper under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth.

The suspect has a criminal history involving mostly violence against wives and girlfriends, and is said to have been married nine times and has 11 children.

He is believed to currently still have three wives. His most recent marriage to the victim was held in southern Thailand

Police investigations also revealed that the suspect appeared to deliberately target women with stable employment, particularly civil servants, as most of his partners were government employees.
