‘Please lah have common sense’ – Netizens criticise commuter who left spilled drink behind
A local social media user has sparked conversation online after sharing a frustrating experience involving spilled drinks on public transport, with many Malaysians criticising the irresponsible attitude and lack of consideration shown by some commuters.
Threads user hariszhizam reminded public transport passengers to be more considerate after seeing a spilled drink that caused other commuters’ shoes and trousers to get wet.
“To all public transport users, please be responsible and have some common sense. It’s sad to see innocent people getting their pants and shoes wet because of spilled drinks.
“What’s worse is when the person responsible does not even bother to pick it up afterward. At the very least, try to clean it up with some tissue or something,” he said, expressing sympathy for passengers who were affected by the spill.
What disappointed the user most, however, was not merely the accident itself, but the lack of accountability afterward.
In a follow-up comment, the user acknowledged that many workers may buy takeaway drinks or food on their way home after a long day at work, saying it is understandable for commuters to carry beverages during transit.
But when something like this happens, there should at least be some responsibility, he said.
According to the user, the incident was observed along the route between Masjid Jamek and Kampung Baru stations in Kuala Lumpur, where the spilled drink was allegedly left unattended without any attempt to clean it up or dispose of the container properly.
The post also attracted many reactions from fellow netizens, with several agreeing that the issue was not the accident itself, but the lack of responsibility shown afterward.
One user commented that the least the individual could have done was pick up the plastic cup after it fell, while another said most people would understand if it was an honest mistake, especially if the person made an effort to clean it up.
“Even pretending to wipe the area with tissue would already show that you’re trying to be responsible,” the commenter wrote, adding that other commuters would usually step in to help if they saw genuine effort.
Another netizen expressed frustration over the situation, saying people become annoyed when someone spills a drink but acts as if nothing happened without attempting to clean the mess.
Many commenters agreed that simple acts of accountability and consideration could go a long way in making public transport more comfortable for everyone.
