Police arrest man for allegedly damaging party flags in Negeri Sembilan

Police have arrested a man in connection with an incident involving the alleged vandalism of party flags during the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.

Negeri Sembilan police, chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said, the suspect was detained last night following a report lodged on July 19 after several party flags were allegedly damaged and thrown into a drain. 

Police have classified the case under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief causing loss or damage to property.

“Last night, a team of police officers arrested a man following a report lodged on July 19 regarding party flags being damaged and thrown into a drain.

“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 427 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

He added that four police reports related to election offences were received yesterday, leading to the opening of two investigation papers.

“One investigation paper was opened under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief causing loss or damage to property.

“Another investigation paper was opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire causing loss or damage to property.

“Overall, from nomination day until yesterday, we received seven police reports and opened four investigation papers related to election offences,” he said.
