Insufficient evidence? That defies logic, says Klang MP
Klang MP V Ganabatirau said that the Attorney General’s Chambers claim that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute controversial Muslim convert preachers such as Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong defies logic since those who insult or provoke sentiments of minority faiths are allowed to walk free.
“This explanation is not only unacceptable but also sends a dangerous message to the public. The claim of insufficient evidence defies logic when the very videos, statements and social media content that triggered public outrage remain publicly accessible and widely circulated.
“Malaysians are asking a fundamental question: Why are those who insult or provoke sentiments of minority faiths allowed to walk free while others are swiftly arrested for far less?
“What we are witnessing is not just legal inaction. It is a blatant display of selective prosecution and double standards in the application of justice. The people are watching, and their faith in our institutions is eroding fast.
“This is not an isolated matter. It reflects a broader pattern where those who use religion as a weapon to spread hate are seemingly shielded, while minority voices are left unprotected. This is dangerous for national unity, for interfaith relations and for the vision of a just and equal Malaysia,” he said in a statement.
He also called on Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Mohd Said to explain how and why digital content and public materials are being dismissed as insufficient evidence.
“The Attorney General must immediately reopen and review all reports and evidence submitted against these individuals without fear or favour.
“The police must ensure that all materials, especially digital content and public statements, are compiled thoroughly and transparently submitted for legal review.”
Ganabatirau said this in response to Azalina Said’s written reply to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong).
She said that evidence was lacking to prosecute controversial convert preachers Zamri Vinoth and Firdaus Wong.
Yesterday MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran pointed out that 3R laws are not meant for a particular race and religion. He also asked what was meant by sufficient evidence.
Malaysia Hindu Sangam told the AGC to clarify what constitutes “sufficient evidence in cases involving religious provocation and sedition.
MHS also told the government and its agencies to stop trivialising Hindu grievance by dismissing legitimate reports from the community.
“If the law is truly blind, then let it act without fear, favour or bias.
“The Hindu community has been patient long enough. Now we demand justice – and we will not stop speaking until it is served,” said MHS president in a statement.
For the record there are over 900 police reports lodged against Zamri Vinoth who quite recently provoked sentiments of the Hindus regarding a temple in Jalan Masjid India.
Firdaus Wong courted controversy in a TikTok video where he explained how to convert underage school going non-Muslim children.
