Urimai clashes with MIPP over Indian support
Barely three days since the Turun Anwar rally took place, Urimai appears to be squabbling with Perikatan Nasional (PN) component, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) over which party had the Indian support.
Selangor Urimai chairman K Gunasekaran hit out at MIPP for its failure in rallying the Indian crowd for the Turun Anwar rally.
He said that PN failed to recognise “true Indian leadership actual grassroots support.
“The Indian community is not happy with the current Madani government. However, let’s be clear that Indians are not rushing towards PN either.
“The problem lies in PN’s failure to recognise true Indian leadership. Instead, they have been pushing forward individuals who have little to no connection with the grassroots.
“At the rally, two Indian speakers were given the stage, but both lacked familiarity and credibility with the community. Their presence did little to inspire confidence,” he said, FMT reported.
MIPP president P Punithan was among those who spoke at the rally.
Gunasekaran alluded that Urimai had the grassroot support among the Indian compared to MIPP.
“Engage with real Indian leaders, those with credibility and proven grassroots support. Present a clear and focused manifesto for the Indian community which directly addresses long-standing economic, educational, and political challenges,” he said.
Ironically, Urimai chairman P Ramasamy is in support of having a united opposition front with PN after he attended a meeting hosted by PN chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
