AwAS: High maintenance cost but impactful compliance

Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that the overall maintenance cost for the existing Automated Awareness Safety System (AwAS) is high at RM15,491,876.58 annually.

“This encompasses camera maintenance and service, back office system and AwAS summons printing.

“Based on a study conducted by Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), the impact of installing AwAS cameras have raised compliance rate (perception of being caught) up to 99% in the locations where the cameras are installed and enforced.”

He said this in a written reply to Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor).
