‘Why should I contest Malay majority seat? Sivanesan retorts Saravanan
Perak DAP vice chairman Datuk A Sivanesan brushed off challenges by MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan to contest in Malay majority seat.
“Why should I contest a Malay majority seat? MIC should at least retain deposit in an Indian majority seat,” retorted Sivanesan who is also Perak exco for human resources, health, Indian community affairs and national integration.
To illustrate his point further, he gave the example of the Buntong seat in Perak that has 52% Indian voters.
“The MIC should at least retain their deposit and then make a claim. Their candidate was MIC Ipoh Barat division chief.
“The seat was won by a newcomer, first timer woman from KL,” he said in reference to M Thulsi, the current assemblywoman.
He explained that he first made the comparison in response to a Tamil daily that claimed that MIC had 64% of the Indian support.
Yesterday Saravanan, who is also Tapah MP dared Indian reps in the DAP to contest in Malay and Indian majority seats instead of Chinese majority seats.
He who is also Tapah MP did not mention which DAP leader triggered him but alluded to Perak Exco A Sivanesan who allegedly claimed that MIC lost deposits in Jelapang and Buntong.
Sivanesan pointed out that MIC had lost all of its seats in Perak aside from Tapah.
He also pointed out that the BN candidate in Ayer Kuning doubled his majority during a by-election due to support from Chinese and Indian supporters of Pakatan Harapan.
Ayer Kuning is a state constituency in Tapah.
