PM to explain Sabah’s 40% revenue, govt decision, AGC’s move tomorrow
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that he would be providing a detailed explanation regarding Kota Kinabalu High Court’s decision on Sabah’s entitlement to 40% federal net revenue under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution along with the government’s decision against appealing the ruling and challenging certain aspects of the decision.
“I wish to emphasise that the government reached a consensus on this matter. We are not appealing the 40 per cent rate as stipulated in the Constitution. However, there are other aspects of the decision that we will appeal.
“The government’s full position and rationale will be explained in Parliament tomorrow in greater detail, to ensure clarity and prevent any misunderstanding,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Department monthly assembly at Dewan Seri Endon, Puspanitapuri, Putrajaya.
Yesterday the Attorney General’s Chambers confirmed that it would appeal against certain judgment grounds that was deemed as faulty.
While GRS welcomed the federal government’s decision against appealing the ruling, former Pakatan Harapan ally, UPKO is cautious about it.
Party president Datuk Ewon Benedick pointed out that an appeal by the AGC could undermine the entire landmark High Court judgment affirming the state’s constitutional rights.
