Bye BN, hi PN, says MIC
MIC finally bid goodbye to the BN coalition it jointly formed in 1974. Delegates voted a resounding yes to the motion that MIC has passed the Rubicon to join opposition bloc, Perikatan Nasional.
The party will now apply to formally join PN.
MIC delegates have left it to the leadership to determine as to how work out the transition.
“The 79th convention has unanimously agreed that MIC is ready to end its participation in BN, subject to the process and provisions in the party constitution.
“MIC is also ready to officially apply to join PN with the purpose of building a new platform that is more inclusive, principled and that gives greater room for the voice of the Indian community in Malaysia.
“The convention gives party president Vigneswaran and the central working committee the full mandate to execute these steps and the formal matters involved,” MIC deputy president Datuk M Saravanan announced at IDCC Shah Alam.
Speculation on MIC’s future have been going on for months following mistreatment from BN’s main party, Umno.
BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said that BN would not prevent any components from leaving.
