Indians are doing better now, says Economy Ministry based on survey
The Economy Ministry pointed out that the Indian community are doing better based on Household Income and Expenses Survey (HIES) 2024.
“The HIES2024 recorded that the average income for Indians have risen to RM 9841 in 2024 compared to RM8950 in 2022.
“The Indians household median income too increased to RM7934 from RM6627 within the same period.
“There has been a significant drop in absolute poverty In 2024 it was 3.2% compared 5.4% in 2022.”
“Efforts to raise the quality of life of the Indian community via the 13th Malaysia Plan is focused on education and talent development including STEM, TVET and career opportunities.”
This effort is done based on the Malaysian Indian Blueprint and Indian Community Action Plan.
The ministry said this in a written reply to V Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) who asked about the government’s plans to ensure national equity is distributed evenly among all communities and plans to ensure that the Indians get a fair share.
