Sabah polls: A total rejection of Malaya parties

The Sabah polls result indicated that there is a total rejection of Malaya based parties.

“It is a total rejection of Malaya based parties. Upto 90% votes went to Sabah based parties and only nine percent went to Malaya parties,” said Tasmania University based political analyst, Dr James Chin.

He also noted that despite the poor results for PH, it is the best results for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim because the state government would continue to be led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“It would be easier to negotiate with Hajiji, he said in reference to the 40% revenue for Sabah.”

Chin was commenting on the results of Sabah polls yesterday.

GRS won 29 seats and its foe Warisan gained 25 seats.

BN – Umno only won six. Pakatan Harapan just clinched one seat via PKR.

UPKO that quit PH won three out of 25 seats it contested.

Pas finally won one via PN.

Former GRS party – Star won 2, KDM also clinched one seat.

Five independents also won their respective seats in Tulid, Kukusan Petagas, Pintasan and Bandau.

Speaking about DAP’s humiliating defeat that saw it losing in all eight seats. Chin said that the Chinese community abandoned the party.

“The Chinese voted en bloc for Warisan and abandoned the DAP. It gives ideas to the Chinese in Klang Valley.”

Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan are Chinese majority areas.

While the Chinese votes were rock solid, the KDM vote bloc remained split.

“They will be paying a political price as they won’t be able to push for what is theirs.”

Equally decimated was BN.

“BN’s support in Sabah has collapsed. Four out of the six who won in BN are political warlords.

“They could have won their seat on any political party. These are personality based, just happened to be standing as Umno Sabah.”

Chin also commented on PH’s dismal performance.

“Sabah people are angry with the federal government’s decision to appeal the grounds of judgment in the 40 percent revenue case.

“It doesn’t make sense to appeal against the judgment ground and not dispute the ruling.

“They are also disappointed that they can’t see the reforms. That is why DAP got whacked. AMANAH is too closely associated with Anwar.”

Chin also mentioned one interesting characteristic of the five independents who won.

“All five were candidates who were dropped by their parties. If the parties had not drop them, they could have increased the number of seats for their respective parties. Big mistake made by the party leaders to drop them.”
