Release the unaltered CCTV decoder recording, MACC dared
Lawyers acting on behalf Albert Tei’s wife, Lee Pei Rie – Rajesh Nagarajan and Sachpreetraj Singh have demanded the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) to release the digital video recorder of a CCTV unit to prove that the MACC had indeed brandished firearms at Tei and Lee.
The lawyers want the MACC to do the following:
i) Immediately release the unaltered CCTV footage;
ii) Explain the unlawful removal of the device;
iii) Account for the deletion of phone contents; and
iv) identify the officers involved.
The MACC had raided and detained Tei over the weekend as part of their probe into the viral video that implicated Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s senior political secretary who had since resigned.
The raid last week saw MACC using high handed force on Tei and his family members.
Subsequently Lee lodged a police report on the matter. The MACC however denied that they used firearms towards Lee.
“The CCTV decoder — the single most important piece of evidence — is thus being held by MACC. The contents of the CCTV decoder are subsequent to alleged corruption. It is therefore irrelevant to any corruption investigation.
“However, the contents of said decoder are critically relevant to establish MACC’s conduct during the now notorious ‘balaclava raid’, which shocked the country,” said Rajesh and Sachpreetraj in a statement today.
“If MACC’s denial that no firearms were brandished at Tei and his wife, the CCTV footage would prove it instantly. The CCTV footage is the definitive truth.”
“By taking the decoder, MACC has seized custody of the only evidence that could confirm what happened during the incident and prove their gross misconduct,” they said.
