When the iconic late Karpal Singh’s sons roar…

The three sons of the late iconic DAP chairman Datuk Seri Karpal Singh Deo, found themselves simultaneously in the limelight as they argued their way through contentious issues.

First, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh Deo took Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to task for concluding that the individuals detained at a wellness centre recently had committed immoral acts.

As reported by a portal, some of them were merely present at the alleged wellness outlet and furthermore, a proper investigation has not been conducted, yet there was a rush to pass judgement.

“Such comments, without the benefit of proper investigations, are clearly an affront to the principle of one being innocent until proven guilty and Saifuddin should know better before making such remarks which can be detrimental to the integrity of the investigation process,” said Ramkarpal.

Moreover, Saifuddin’s view that a review of remand laws is needed following a briefing by the police is unwarranted as the 24 hour period mandated by law to produce a detainee before a Magistrate after his/her arrest under section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code acts as a safeguard against possible abuses of process by the police and the right to liberty as enshrined in Article 5 of the Federal Constitution.

In Penang, Karpal’s eldest son Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo found himself caught up in a viral social media video when he scolded contract workers for trimming down a tree while in the process of blocking road access for the Mount Pleasure residents.

Jagdeep defended his actions, saying that he was not being rude, as alleged by the workers but trying to force through a point that they need to conduct their work without causing inconvenience to third parties.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was asked about it, and he said that he instructed two state executive councillors Jason H’ng and Zairil Khir Johari to liaise with the contracting firm to clarify matters over the incident.

Then Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who is the second eldest of Karpal’s political active children, said that he will bring up the matter in cabinet over the alleged high handed arrest tactics of businessman Albert Tei by the Malaysian Anti – Corruption Commission (MACC).

The arresting officers apparently brandish revolvers when they stormed into Tei’s house last week.

Tei is reportedly set to be charged with the former political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin over alleged corruption.

Gobind said he is confused over how Tei was arrested following conflicted accounts of the due process by Tei’s combative wife and MACC.
