PM Anwar urged to intervene to ensure independent investigation into alleged shooting of three ethnic Indians

Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng has called for an intervention from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to direct Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution to ensure an an independent, fair, professional and transparent investigation by a competent authority to probe into the fatal shooting if three Malaysians of Indian ethnicity last week.

The authority is to be assisted by the police.

“The terms of reference of such an investigation would be related as to whether the police officers involved executed the three men in cold blood, the public version by the police of events as to what had occurred, whether the deceased were involved in criminal activities and the type of action taken against the police officers if found guilty of murder or criminal wrongdoing or misconduct,” Lim said in a statement.

“There is no doubt the alleged shocking audio recording of the final moments by the wife of one of the deceased before, during and after the 3 men were shot dead have greatly disturbed if not distressed the public.

“If I had received so many messages, I am sure the Prime Minister would have received more.”

“The Prime Minister should publicly address this grave public concern and issue such a directive to Datuk Seri Saifudin not just to bring justice to the families of the deceased.

“More importantly, the Prime Minister needs to reassure the public by demonstrating in an open manner that he adheres to the rule of law and upholds the necessity that those in authority do not abuse their powers.”

The Durian Tunggal police had claimed that three men were armed and attacked the men in blue on Nov 24.

Families of the victims however disputed the police account and produced a 13-minute audio recording of one of the victims G Logeswaran, 29, speaking to his wife, Jayashree moments before and during the shooting.

Bukit Aman has since taken over the probe on this case.
