Durian Tunggal police shooting: Put Melaka police chief on garden leave or transfer him out

Lawyers in Durian Tunggal police shooting have demanded that the Melaka police chief be put on garden leave or transferred to a different state.

“We demand the Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail put the Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Muktar on garden leave. Alternately transfer him to a different state,” said lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan who represents the family of victims in the Durian Tunggal police shooting case.

He also questioned whether Bukit Aman was truly conducting investigation transparently since it was the Melaka police chief making statements regarding the case.

“How do we trust the integrity and due process?”

Rajesh also took Dzulkhairi to task for painting Jayashree who is Logeswaran’s widow as a person with criminal record and for questioning her marital status.

The Melaka police chief attacked the wife of the deceased, Jayashree. She is also a victim. Why is the Melaka police investigating her marital status?

“Kenapa jaga tepi kain orang? How is her marital status relevant to the case? You are attacking the legality of marriage. That is not acceptable.

Rajesh also denied that Jayashree had any criminal record dared the Melaka police chief to substantiate his claim.

“Only when you are found guilty by the court, you will have a criminal record. What the Melaka police chief said is a falsification.

“If Jayashree has criminal records, show us the proof.

“She has been called in as witness to assist the police. If she is not convicted. How can one claim as having criminal record?

He also said that the evidence from an anonymous source was damning to the police.

“The evidence is damning. Their claim that the victims died at 4am is debunked. Evidence showed that it happened at 1.30am.

Activist Arun Dorasamy had earlier revealed photographs and a letter from an anonymous whistleblower.

“How come the police don’t know about this? Surely they know it was done at 1.30am,” Rajesh added.

He confirmed that he would be writing to PLUS to obtain the CCTV recording even though it is actually police responsibility to do so.
