Sue me, Melaka police chief dares lawyers in Durian Tunggal police shootout case
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar has dared lawyers representing the families of three men shot dead in Durian Tunggal on Nov 24 to sue him if he was wrong in revealing information regarding the alleged wife of one victim.
The three victims – Puspanathan Murulitharan, 21; Poonesvaran Tiagarajan, 24; and Logeswaran Georgie, 29.
Jayashree had recorded her phone conversation with Logeswaran prior to his death.
“If you feel I’m wrong, sue me. Don’t just talk,” he said.
“If there are no facts, we will not issue a statement,” he said.
“I am clarifying this matter in response to what has been discussed on social media,” he added, explaining that his comments were prompted by online discussions.
“She says that the individual has never been arrested. If she was never arrested, how is there a record of detention? There are indeed 10 records of detention,” he said, confirming the existence of ten detention records.
“Not every arrest necessarily leads to charges, but if it is just for questioning, it is not recorded in the criminal record. We will summon someone if we suspect they are involved in a particular case,” he said.
Dzulkhairi had previously claimed that Jayashree had 10 criminal records. He also disputed Jayashree’s marital status.
This prompted lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan to dare Dzulkhairi to substantiate his claim with evidence. Rajesh also countered by stating Dzulkhairi’s revelation about the marital status was irrelevant to the case and equated it to character assassination.
Rajesh had called upon Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector General of Police Khalid Ismail to put Dzulkhairi on garden leave or transfer him out.
