PN claims MIC, report claims it was done on Dec 9

Perikatan Nasional has claimed MIC as its component even as the BN supreme council convenes a meeting today.

The decision to accept MIC as part of PN was reached on Dec 9 last year.

“In the meeting, (then) PN chairman Mahiaddin Yassin reportedly gave a lengthy explanation regarding a letter submitted by the MIC leadership and a meeting with MIC leaders.

“Mahiaddin emphasised the importance of MIC and other political parties in strengthening the coalition’s machinery to face the upcoming election.

“The main reason for accepting MIC is to allow PN to attract the support of non-Malay voters, with a specific focus on the Indian community, which is a decisive factor in many urban seats,” a source claimed, reported Malaysiakini.

MIC was accepted despite opposition from PN component – the Malaysian Indian People’s Party.

Mahiaddin had claimed MIC applied to join PN in November based on a letter sent by the Indian party.

MIC however denied it then.

Its secretary-general Datuk S Ananthan clarified the letter was meant to obtained information.

Meanwhile, within BN, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told both MCA and MIC to stop sulking.

He said this during the the recent Umno AGM.
