Police must take severe action against the protest rally, says MIC
MIC strategy director Senator Datuk Sivaraj Chandran has called for severe police action against a coalition of 140 NGOs who would be holding a protest rally against illegal places of worship on Feb 7 in Kuala Lumpur.
“Police must take stringent action. They are targeting one particular faith group. It has the potential to erupt into clashes between different communities,” said Sivaraj.
The coordinator for the organising committee is controversial Indian Muslim convert preacher Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu.
“Zamri is simply attempting to portray himself as being more Malay than the Malays.
Sivaraj also pointed out that the rally would tarnish the image of the nation and smear Malaysia’s bilateral relations with India.
“This would give the impression that the race relations are fragile,” he said.
“India and Malaysia has had long term bilateral ties. This rally can tarnish the ties.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two day official visit to Malaysia on Feb 7 and 8.. He was invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Yesterday Jelutong MP RSN Rayer of the DAP had also called for action to be taken against individuals such as Zamri Vinoth.
MIPP, the sole Indian representative in Perikatan Nasional have requested its allies Pas and Bersatu to bar its members from attend the rally.
