Selangor will regulate illegally built non-Muslim places of worship via LIMAS
Selangor will regulate illegally built non-Muslim places of worship via its existing structure the Selangor Five Religions Houses of Worship Committee (LIMAS) that has been in place for a long time, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“Over the past 15 years, we have not only allowed houses of worship to operate at appropriate and lawful locations, but have also taken action to remove houses of worship that were built in an unregulated manner.
“Dozens of such actions have been carried out, and records of these date back to 2015,” he said at a press conference after the ground-breaking ceremony of the Bestari Large-Scale Solar Project here today.
He added that the state government would refine its enforcement methods in line with the law while ensuring social harmony.
The local authorities would also be involved in a committee that is coordinated by LIMAS.
This is to take into account factors such as land status, ownership, land – use zoning and impact on surrounding areas.
Earlier a Selangor state assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan also provided an input on how to go about resolving this issue.
Yesterday Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called upon local councils to act against illegally constructed house of worship.
