Sarawak prepared to increase pig production

Sarawak is prepared to increase its production of live pigs.

This comes in the wake of a decree from Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who is against pig farming in the state.

“We are also open to supplying to other states that wish to import,” said Sarawak’s Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Dr Rundi said that Sarawak currently has modern pig farms and smallholder pig farms.

“We also have three large modern pig farms located in Simunjan, Ensengei and Selangau area,” he added, reported The Borneo Post.

Sultan Sharafuddin via his private secretary said in a statement suggested that Selangor should import pigs.

The ruler is against pig farming since it could lead to air and water pollution.
