PM confirms plot to topple government driven by large scale MACC probe

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed, a plot aim to topple the current government is driven by the large-scale corruption investigations being conducted by the Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC).

He said, preliminary investigations found that the plan had been outlined since August last year, with a timeline extending until the next general election.

According to Anwar, the group’s strategy included obtaining information through international round tables, international non-governmental organisations and engaging foreign media to shape narratives questioning the credibility of the government.

“What prompted this activity was the large-scale corruption investigation by the MACC. That is what caused them to act using the power of foreign influence,” he explained during the Prime Minister’s Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat.

Anwar was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN–Arau), who asked about the status of PDRM investigation into into the alleged plot to topple the government, and whether the probe involved elements of misappropriation or abuse of public funds.

Anwar said, the plan involved large funds which supported by locals and was structured with a strategy to challenge the government’s efforts, including through international platforms.

“Records obtained showed that at least six meetings were held in 2025, both domestically and abroad, involving companies, organisations and several individuals,” he said.
