Hold on Johor, Melaka elections, says Ahmad Maslan amid West Asia crisis
UMNO Supreme Council (MKT) member, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan suggested that the Johor and Melaka state elections be put on hold amid ongoing instability caused by the crisis in West Asia.
Ahmad, who is also the Deputy Chairman of UMNO Johor, said he would raise the matter during the MKT meeting scheduled for April 17.
He said the current geopolitical uncertainty and potential economic implications stemming from the West Asia crisis could affect Malaysia, making it less suitable to hold elections at this time.
“The unstable geopolitical situation has led to an increase in the cost of living, among others.
“Logically, it is not the right time to call for state elections.
“As deputy Johor Umno chairman, I will recommend at the upcoming supreme council meeting in Melaka this Friday that we wait until the economic situation improves before holding the Melaka and Johor elections,” he said today.
