Motorcyclist critically injured after being hit by drunk driver going against traffic

A motorcyclist was left seriously injured after being rammed by a vehicle driven by a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol, in an incident along Persiaran Kota, Klang last night.

Klang South district police chief Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Huey said, the accident, which occurred at approximately 12.30am, saw the victim, a local man in his 20s, thrown off his motorcycle upon impact, sustaining injuries to his body and legs.

“Preliminary investigations found the car was travelling from Port Klang towards Shah Alam and was allegedly speeding while driving against the flow of traffic before colliding with a motorcycle travelling in its correct lane.

“The suspect is believed to have driven against traffic for about 3.5km before the crash,” he said in a statement.

He said the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital and is receiving critical care in the red zone.

“Preliminary screening found the suspect tested positive for alcohol.

“The man has been detained and remanded until Friday to assist investigations,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury.

If convicted, the offence carries a jail term of 7 to 10 years, a fine of RM30,000 to RM50,000, and suspension of the driving licence.

Lim urged witnesses to contact investigating officer Inspector Mohd Khairulnizam Abdul Talib or the nearest police station to assist investigations.

The case went viral after footage showed the Perodua Bezza driving against traffic before crashing into oncoming vehicles, with the driver later confronted by a member of the public.
