BN supporter’s claim people want Bossku back sparks backlash as Malaysians say no to Najib’s release

A video of a Barisan Nasional (BN) supporter expressing hope for the release of former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has gone viral on social media.

The video sparking hundreds of reactions from Malaysians after the woman claimed that Najib’s release was “what everyone has been waiting for”.

When asked why Umno supporters continued to back a leader convicted of a major corruption offence, she said the former prime minister had contributed significantly to the country

“Actually, that’s what we’ve all been waiting for because he is a figure that we are very proud of. He has contributed so much to the people of Malaysia,” she said in the viral video.

When asked whether she would continue supporting BN despite Najib’s conviction, the woman replied that everyone makes mistakes and should be given the opportunity to move forward.

“Everyone makes mistakes. Even prophets made mistakes. It’s okay, we should look at it positively. Until today, wherever we go, people still say, ‘We want Bossku’,” she said.

The video has since attracted hundreds of comments, with netizens expressing mixed reactions.

Surprisingly, the overwhelming majority of comments rejected the woman’s remarks, with many saying they did not want corruption to be forgiven simply because of a person’s past contributions.

Netizens from different backgrounds, including Malays, Chinese and Indians, criticised the statement, saying they did not want Najib to be released.

Commenters also said that the government is still paying off debts related to the 1MDB scandal.
