Lumut helicopter crash preliminary report out tomorrow

A preliminary report on the two naval helicopters that crashed during training in Lumut on April 23 would released tomorrow, said government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil.

The defence minister would provide the preliminary report tomorrow. The full report can be expected in the next two to three weeks,” he said at a press conference at the Communication Ministry.

The two helicopters – a Eurocopter AS555SN Fennec, and an Agusta-Westland AW-139, with the tail numbers M502-6 and HOM M503-3, resulted in the death of 10 Navy personnel at the scene.

The 10 victims were:

  1. Squadron 503 commanding officer Commander Muhammad Firdaus Ramli;
  2. Lieutenant Commander Wan Rezaudeen Kamal Wan Zainal Abidin;
  3. Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Amirulfaris Mohamad Marzukhi;
  4. Warrant Officer II TLR (AQM) Muhammad Faisol Tamadun;
  5. Warrant Officer II TNL Noorfarahimi binti Mohd Saedy (passenger);
  6. Petty Officer TNL Noor Rahiza Anuar (passenger); and,
  7. Able Seaman I JJM Joanna Felicia daughter of Rohna (passenger).

Three crew members were on board the Fennec M502-6. They are:

  1. Squadron 502 commanding officer Commander Muhamad Amir Mohamad
  2. Lieutenant Sivasutan Thanjappan
  3. Warrant Officer II TMK Mohd Shahrizan Mohd Termizi

The two helicopters were conducting training as part of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s 90 anniversary celebration.
