Johor police chief increases security for Super League football match
Police will heighten security for the 2024/25 Super League football match said Johor police chief M. Kumar.
The Johor’s police chief revealed that he has ordered increased security measures for the upcoming match between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Negeri Sembilan FC this Saturday.
Recently assaults on three football players have surprised the nation and led to the cancellation of the season’s opener.
“We will never take any football match that is held in Johor for granted.
“We are always prepared and will monitor the safety and security aspects throughout the match,” he said, reported Malay Mail.
He told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today when asked about the safety and security aspects for this weekend’s match.
Previously Kumar had announced the deployment of 1,500 policemen for rigorous control and inspection at the Charity Shield match between Selangor and JDT on May 10.
On 9 May, The Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced the cancellation of the Charity Shield match between JDT and Selangor FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
The three players that were attacked were Terengganu FC player Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid, Harimau Malaya and Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim and JDT’s Safiq Rahim.
On 2 May, Muhammad Akhyar sustained head iniyrywhile Faisal was attacked with acid at a Kota Damansara mall on May 5.
Safiq had his car’s rear windscreen smashed by assailants on a motorcycle in Johor Baru on May 7.
It is reported that the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, promised to make sure Malaysian League teams are safer with more police help after three footballers were attacked.
