Chow didn’t blame Umno for Sungai Bakap

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow denied blaming Umno for Pakatan Harapan (PH) loss in the Sungai Bakap by-election.

“Such a statement was never issued by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow,” Chow’s Facebook page admin said.

Recently a social media post titled “DAP blames Umno for Sungai Bakap by-election loss” was circulating online.

The post featured a photo of Chow Kon Yeow sitting in his office on the 28th floor of Komtar.

The post reads, “Is Umno the reason for Pakatan Harapan’s defeat? Many Umno supporters were insincere and voted for Perikatan Nasional. During the Sungai Bakap by-election, Umno and DAP staff did not cooperate, yet they requested campaign funds from the DAP-led state government.”

Perikatan Nasional emerged victorious in the July 6 Sungai Bakap by-election. Their candidate, Abidin Ismail, triumphed with a significant lead of 4,267 votes over PH candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin.

The by-election was called following the demise of incumbent assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff, who was also Nibong Tebal Pas division chief.
