Education guidelines updated to accommodate Singapore volunteers
To accommodate Singapore volunteers teaching English, the guidelines previously used for U.S. teachers have been updated.
“We have previously engaged educators from the United States and South Korea to teach English and Korean, respectively.
“I do not foresee any significant challenges in implementing this programme,” Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said, reported The Star.
She said this at the Prospec KPM X Fazura Merdeka Collection 2024 launch today.
Fadhlina noted that the program is a product of negotiations between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Anwar had previously stated that the initiative would engage only volunteers, tasked with teaching English to the urban poor and residents in East Malaysia’s remote areas.
He added that Singapore has agreed to fund the program.
