Lance corporal charged with Nur Farah Kartini’s murder in court
Lance Corporal Muhammad Alif Monjani, 26, was charged with the murder of Nur Farah Kartini Abdullah at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate’s Court.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which mandates either the death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years.
Conviction also entails a mandatory minimum of 12 cane strokes.
Judge Nurul Mardhiah Mohammed Redza oversaw the proceedings.
The murder victim’s family hopes for a smooth legal process.
According to her cousin, Suzursofia Smeth Jaya, 33, the family is currently satisfied with how the police have handled the investigation and the prosecution of the suspect.
“We hope the legal process will run smoothly to ensure justice for Nur Farah (Kartini),” she said when met outside Kuala Kubu Bharu Magistrate’s Court today.
Suzursofia stated that Nur Farah Kartini’s other family members plan to attend the case mentioned scheduled for August 30.
“We are thankful for the efforts of the police and prosecution so far,” she said, reported the Star.
Nur Farah Kartini went missing in Tanjung Malim, Perak, on July 10.
The last sighting of the former Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student was when she was delivering a rental car to a customer in Tanjung Malim.
Around 6 pm on July 15, her body was discovered in a palm oil plantation in Kampung Sri Keledang, Hulu Bernam.
The murder is suspected to have been committed by an acquaintance.
Following an investigation, the police have arrested Alif.
