Invading Israel vs Saddam’s fate – Turkey threatens, Israel counters
Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan threatened to use the military to invade Israel as tensions flare up between the Jewish state and Libyan based Hezbollah.
Erdogan did not rule out the possibility of Turkey entering Israel as it had done so in Libya.
“We must be very strong so that Israel can’t do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them,” Erdogan told a meeting of his ruling AK Party in his hometown of Rize.
“There is no reason why we cannot do this… We must be strong so that we can take these steps,” Erdogan said in the meeting that was also televised.
Turkey sent its military to Libya in 2020 in support of Libyan government led by Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah.
It has denied direct roles in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict but it is using all means including military training to support its ally in Azerbaijan.
Israel Foreign Minister Israel Katz has responded to Erdogan.
“Erdogan is following in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein by threatening to attack Israel. He should remember what happened there and how it ended,’ Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote in a post on X.
