Nenggiri by-election: Umno pans Bersatu candidate

Kelantan Umno information chief Zawawi Othman panned political rivals Bersatu as the latter appeared to have run out of candidates and had to recruit a former Pas member.

Former navy officer Rizwadi Ismail was named by Bersatu yesterday for the Nenggiri by-election scheduled to take place on August 17.

“PAS Youth in Gua Musang previously requested that a PAS candidate be fielded for the Nenggiri seat, but Bersatu insisted it was their seat,” Zawawi said.

“Yesterday, it became evident that Bersatu had to yield to Gua Musang PAS’s demands when they selected a former PAS deputy youth chief as their candidate.”

“Honestly speaking, it is as if Pas itself is contesting. Since Nenggiri is Bersatu’s seat, its members quit and joined Bersatu.

“This is what you call a cartoon story and clearly Bersatu is powerless and bereft of quality candidates.”

Zawawi said the above based on the fact that Rizwadi had only recently quit Pas for Bersatu.

Umno is fielding its state youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani to retake the Nenggiri state seat.
