Gerakan should exit if it still has principles
Gerakan should exit the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition if it still values its principles and dignity.
This is because its fellow component PN member Pas has become too fanatic.
“Pas has become fanatical, ignoring the constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and social harmony in Malaysia.
“Gerakan must not tolerate or support Pas’s increasing arrogance.”
“If the Gerakan still has any principles and dignity, it should immediately announce its exit from the increasingly extreme PN.
“Continuing to stay within PN will only make it a historical sinner,” Perak DAP committee members said via a Facebook post.
Perak DAP committee members said that Pas, having exhausted its strategies, is now resorting to stricter religious regulations to further undermine the rights of non-Muslims and women.
Perak DAP has raised the ire against Gerakan since Pas has started to implement stricter regulations that erode the rights of non-Muslims.
This is in light of the Terengganu government imposing a ban on female singers performing at Guan Di Temple’s jubilee celebration, which took place from July 29 to August 2.
“Why are only female performers banned, while male performers are allowed on stage?”
“This shows that Pas has exhausted its strategies and is relying on tightening religious regulations to further erode the rights of non-Muslims and women.”
“As a multi-religious and multi-ethnic country, this is unacceptable,” said Perak DAP committee members.
DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng, warned that banning Chinese female performers at Guan Di Temple will anger the Chinese community on August 3.
On August 3, DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok said that Islam-based regulations must not be applied upon non-Islamic communities.
