Get private sector, start up companies in Malaysia-Thai SEZ

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for involvement of the private sector and start-up companies following his discussion with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa yesterday.

“The setting up of a special economic zone (SEZ) that involved the private sector and start up companies was proposed to Maris. This is aside from the rubber and food sectors.”

He said this via his Facebook page today.

“Their involvement can attract more investment into the SEZ and I have even suggested that Kelantan is given an opportunity to set up businesses along Golok River.”

Anwar also gave his word on Malaysia’s commitment regarding several bilateral issues that is of concern for both Malaysia and Thailand.

“Maris and I discussed about deepening Golok River estuary to handle the floods and this can help the communities along the river.

“I have stated Malaysia’s commitment towards South Thai Peace Dialogue. Both countries have agreed for Malaysia to be the host for the 7th Annual Negotiations on Sept 19.”

The peace dialogue involves bringing forward the Thai government to the negotiation table with Muslims of South Thailand.

The meeting held yesterday was a continuation from a work visit that Anwar had with his Thai counterpart, Srettha Thavisn last week.
