What happened to the anti-bully taskforce? Act now, senator calls for immediate action

Senator A Lingeshwaran questioned the whereabouts of a taskforce that was set up in 2022 to arrest bullying among healthcare workers.

“One death due to bullying is one death to many!

“A task force that was tasked to conduct free and fair investigations to get to the root of the problem to eradicate this bully menace.

“What happened to the task force findings?

“What steps has been taken to overcome the incidence of bullying within the system?”

The DAP lawmaker made this call in the wake of the death of Dr Tay Tien Yaa who served as chemical pathology unit chief at the Lahad Datu Hospital since February this year.

Dr Tay had committed suicide after enduring bullying at her workplace from her head of department, claimed Dr Tay’s brother, Kelvin Tay YS via Facebook.

In light of Dr Tay’s death, Lingeshwaran called upon Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and the ministry to act immediately to stop bullying among health sector workers.

“If this was your spouse, your children or your precious loved one, would we just be sitting idle sending condolences?

“We have failed and we have failed our civil servants in KKM miserably.

“The best time to act was yesterday. The second best time is now.

“I urge the Health Minister, Health director general, Health Ministry’s secretary general to act on this ASAP.”
